S for Style

fashion week catch-up

i’m not sure if this will actually be a real trend or not, but i’ve noticed a lot of western and renaissance/baroque themed collections on the runway.

i’m loving the baroque-esque prints and intricate pearl-beaded designs seen on the runways of dolce&gabbana, balmain, marchesa, and salvatore ferragamo. i love the period from the renaissance to the rococo styles because everything was just so much more sophisticated, detailed, and rich back then.

however, i don’t understand the cowboy hat appeal. i mean, i don’t really find them flattering..at all. and who wants to look like that?! mara hoffman, nicholas k, isabel marant, and band of outsiders all went for the western cowboy style and even moschino (who’s collection i adored) topped off several looks with that horrid hat.

personally, i think the “little house on the prairie” style is just a bit too nun-ish for me. and the “walker, texas ranger”  look (*shudder*) is…….just such a fad and costumey. it’s one of those looks that you look back on 20 years from now and go “why the hell would someone design that?” however, i must say that i did love the layering in the nicholas k collection.
